TOP UK PLASTIC SURGEON UNVEILS REVOLUTIONARY TECHNIQUE TO LENGTHEN THE NOSE
Leading UK Surgeon Finally Solves Age-Old Challenge at Prestigious Conference
London – 27 September, 2007 – Top UK Consultant Plastic Surgeon and founding member of London Plastic Surgery Associates (www.lpsa.co.uk) Martin Kelly will be unveiling an innovative technique which solves one of the most challenging aspects of rhinoplasty (nose jobs): lengthening the short nose, a challenge which has historically presented much difficulty to plastic surgeons all over the world. Martin Kelly will reveal his new procedure to hundreds of surgeons attending the prestigious British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) annual meeting on the 27 – 28 September, at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Martin Kelly, a craniofacial expert based at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) explained;
“Lengthening the nose is widely regarded as the most difficult part of rhinoplasty because of the shortage of skin to cover the cartilage structure underneath. The new procedure involves the use of a ‘self-filling balloon’ to stretch the skin of the nasal tip. This auto-expander, which absorbs water like a contact lens, is placed at the tip of the nose under the skin and for two weeks swells very slowly and painlessly to the size of a grape, creating ‘new skin’ ready for the second operation, when the nose is formally lengthened using cartilage from either the rib or the ear.”
Martin Kelly MD FRCS (Plas.) continued;
“The results have been very satisfactory with all patients where this method has been used, with the end results showing an attractive nose that could not have been achieved with traditional methods”.
Earlier this year, Martin Kelly also introduced another ‘body-friendly’ approach to rhinoplasty at the prestigious American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons annual conference in New York City, using a new, absorbable material instead of stitches to support the various parts of the nose during the procedure.
According to Mr Kelly;
“I am honoured to present this innovative procedure to a contingent of highly respected plastic surgeons at this prestigious global conference in London which will be beneficial to aesthetic surgeons and, ultimately, their patients”.
The BAAPS annual conference is an industry event attended by hundreds of plastic surgeons from around the world. This year’s presentations explore a wide range of subjects including innovative techniques in subtle facelifting with minimal scarring, body contouring, thigh lifts, refinements in breast surgery, susceptibility to scarring, the latest advances in laser technologies as well as new treatments for the dreaded ‘bingo wings’.
